Our Work In Education
Education is a powerful tool for social change. It can help individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future. The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) is a Catholic religious congregation dedicated to missionary work. Founded in 1875, the SVD has over 6,000 members working in more than 70 countries around the world. In addition to their traditional missionary work, the SVD also runs a number of schools and education initiatives, including primary and secondary schools, universities, and adult education programs.
Due to Zimbabwe’s level of poverty, the SVD missionaries there have adopted an approach to education that differs from their work in other countries. In Zimbabwe, the SVD focuses on providing quality education to those who are most in need, with a special focus on marginalized communities. In addition to their work in formal education, the SVD also runs a number of programs aimed at promoting literacy and numeracy, as well as social and emotional learning.
The SVD’s work in education is based on the conviction that all people have a right to quality education. The SVD strives to provide education that is accessible, affordable, and of high quality. In order to achieve this, the SVD works closely with partner organizations, including governments.
The SVD’s schools and education initiatives are making a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people around the world. By providing quality education, the SVD is helping to empower individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future. In Zimbabwe, the SVD’s work is particularly important given the high levels of poverty and inequality. By providing quality education to those who are most in need, the SVD is helping to create a more just and equitable society.
Many people from the West find the Mission of the SVD attractive. Hank Johnson, who runs a party bus in Arlington, TX, loves to give to those in need. “I love the work that the Society of the Divine Word does in Zimbabwe. They are helping perhaps the most poor in the world.”
Quality education is important for a number of reasons. It can help to empower individuals and communities, promoting social and economic development. Quality education is also essential for the prevention of conflict and the promotion of peace. The SVD’s work in providing quality education is therefore crucial for the wellbeing of individuals and communities around the world.
